How to control anger

Anger can cause a lot of damage once it is expressed in a destructive way. However, anger is not destructive by nature. When you learn to deal with anger in a healthy and constructive way, it can even become your friend or inner compass. Listening to the wisdom behind anger and rage helps you to identify the friendly, subtle force beneath it. This force is meant to support your well-being and assist you in navigating the world in a way that aligns with your individual needs and challenges.

This friendly force can only emerge after it has been acknowledged and understood. That’s why it pays off to get to know your emotions and feelings in general better, and especially your anger.

How? I’ll teach you step by step.

Why an action plan?

You’ve already taken the first step by wanting to find out how to control anger. Good for you! If you want to learn how to express anger healthily, there’s good news: for many people, it is definitely possible. But it does require your focused attention, time, and practice. It’s also important to get to know yourself better on a deeper and constructive level: what is the neutral nature of anger? What say about me when I feel upset or angry? And what do I need to do in order to learn to deal with anger in a healthy and constructive way?

One thing is certain: you must do the inner work yourself. No one else can do this for you. However, as soon as you are willing to put in the effort, much is possible! It begins with understanding the psychology of emotions and feelings. Next, you need to become more aware of how you’ve dealt with anger so far. After all, dealing with anger isn’t new to you. You’ve already developed all kinds of patterns in it, both consciously and unconsciously.

When old patterns prove unhelpful, you’re faced with the challenge of learning to walk new paths. Step by step, you need to develop new strategies for dealing with anger that are more effective and less destructive. It is also vital to remove the stinger(s) so recovery can happen— from the inside out. This way, you work towards a lasting behavioral change— durable and effective. If you don’t do this, you’ll notice little to no progress at the bottlenecks, and sometimes your behavior may even worsen. Therefore, follow the step-by-step plan I’ve carefully put together for you. With each step, take the time to reflect: how does this work for me?

Experience is the deepest way of learning and healing

This step-by-step plan provides guidance and helps you navigate pitfalls, blind spots, and confusing moments. It prevents you from getting lost and makes it easier to quickly return to lasting, positive change when you feel lost.

The plan is based on insights from my personal and professional experiences gained from working with over 1000 clients who have come before you. They have learned what to do in order to control anger constructively. Now, the next step is yours.

I go all out for recovery, regardless of the problem you’re dealing with.

EXPECTED – The practical guide Living with anger and rage explains layer by layer how anger can develop, what role it plays in your daily life, where your natural influence lies, and how you can use that influence to recover from the inside out and achieve lasting, constructive results. This book is an addition to the handbook The Wisdom Behind Emotion and Feeling.

STEP 2: Practice to become more proficient

Practicing constructive strategies for dealing with anger helps gradually increase confidence in your abilities. The more trust you build, the more it becomes possible to offer a natural counterbalance to destructive patterns and habits, both in yourself and others. This enables you to make more focused choices in the moment and prioritize long-term well-being over short-term avoidance.

It is crucial to begin with the basics: developing your inner balance. Without this balance, it’s unsafe to overload yourself with intense emotions, feelings, pain, and tensions. When you have too little inner space, you lack an internal filter in contact and communication. As a result, emotions and comments can be received more harshly than intended by the other person. That’s why you need to naturally expand your inner space from within, so you can stay better balanced. I created the online training course Inner Balance specifically for this purpose. The training has been available since 2012 and has been extensively tested and improved. Every person who has taken the online course as intended has experienced deeper peace and balance within a few weeks!
