Het korte antwoord op deze vraag is: nee. Stress hoort op een natuurlijke manier bij je dagelijks werk en leven. Enige vorm van spanning maakt dat je in staat bent om alert en adequaat te kunnen reageren. Zo kun je geconcentreerd je aandacht investeren in wat op dat moment voor jou belangrijk is, bijvoorbeeld het leiden van een vergadering, een slecht nieuws gesprek voeren of een nieuw product ontwikkelen. Stress en spanningen zijn dus zeker niet per definitie slecht. Je hebt ze nodig om goed te kunnen functioneren. Wel zijn de <strong>duur<\/strong> en de hoogte van de<strong> hoeveelheid<\/strong> spanningen van belang.<\/p>\n<p>Door alle informatie en indrukken die je gedurende de dag opdoet, kan je niet op elk moment van de dag even geconcentreerd werken. Het is daarom nodig om momenten van inspanning af te wisselen met momenten van ontspanning. Ook tijdens je werk. Maak regelmatig een ommetje, pak wat te drinken of loop even naar een collega toe in plaats van een email te sturen. Je hoeft het niet perfect te doen. Welke patronen je ook maar hebt in het omgaan met stress en spanningen: het is goed om van jezelf te weten hoe jij op spanningen reageert.<\/p>\n<p>Neem de moeite en tijd om gedurende een week te observeren hoe jij met stress en spanningen om gaat. Wanneer voel je stress? Wat zijn de aanleidingen? En hoe ga je ermee om? Negeer je de spanningen, stop je ze weg of neem je juist tijd en ruimte om het even rustiger aan te doen? Bedenk dat je vaak meerdere korte pauzes per dag nodig hebt om bewust spanningen los te kunnen laten. Ga tijdens deze pauzes daarom niet achter je telefoon zitten. Investeer je tijd om bijvoorbeeld stil te staan bij je gevoel en je lichaam. Waar zitten spanningen? Hoe voel je je? Ben je perfectionistisch? Leg je jezelf veel druk op, of heb je om te kunnen presteren eerder externe druk nodig, zoals de druk van een deadline of een leidinggevende die je op de huid zit? Door jezelf beter te leren kennen, kun je gemakkelijker rekening houden met jouw kwaliteiten en valkuilen in het omgaan met stress. Op tijd en diep kunnen ontspannen, je grenzen bewaken, helder en bijtijds kunnen communiceren, opbouwend omgaan met (verschillen tussen) jouw behoeften en die van anderen: het zijn levensvaardigheden die kunnen helpen om stress en burn-out te voorkomen.<\/p>\n<p>Wanneer je gedurende langere tijd onder hoge druk staat en moeite hebt om te ontspannen, is het nodig om op te passen. Langdurige stress en hoge druk kunnen op termijn ertoe leiden dat je opgebrand raakt. Vaak is er naast langdurige stress en hoge druk een mengeling van interne en externe factoren aanwezig, persoonlijk en\/of professioneel.
