Niet alleen door informatie die ze vanbuiten ontvangen, maar ook door informatie die ze vanbinnen ervaren. Ook overprikkeling kan als een zeer intens intern gebeuren worden ervaren. Sommige mensen gaan hierdoor twijfelen aan hun mentale en emotionele gemoedstoestand. Hoewel het mogelijk is dat de hoogsensitiviteit en overprikkeling inwerken op andere persoonlijke eigenschappen of omstandigheden (dit wordt &#8216;comorbiditeit&#8217; genoemd), is het voor wat betreft de overprikkeling zelf echt niet nodig om te twijfelen aan je gezondheid. <\/p>\n<p>De enige objectieve betekenis die je aan een ervaring van overprikkeling kunt toekennen, is dat je je <strong>eigen grenzen<\/strong> hebt overschreden. Meer niet. Wil je een moment van overprikkeling in de toekomst voorkomen, dan is het nodig om je eigen grenzen beter te leren kennen en in het hier-en-nu je gedrag aan te passen. Bijvoorbeeld door eerder pauze te nemen, eerder een grens aan te geven of minder activiteiten op een dag te plannen.<\/p>\n<p>Hoewel je overprikkeling als vervelend, lastig of storend kunt ervaren, is die feitelijk gezien dus <strong>neutraal<\/strong>. Je lichaam geeft een waarschuwing. Welke emotionele kleuring je vervolgens toekent aan deze neutrale ervaring, hangt mede af van je vertrouwen en vaardigheden in het omgaan met je menselijkheid. Hoogsensitiviteit is het subtiel kunnen waarnemen en diep verwerken van externe informatie. Dit verloopt grotendeels automatisch; je kunt er weinig directe invloed op uitoefenen. Wel is het mogelijk om <strong>indirect<\/strong> invloed uit te oefenen op het omgaan met (de gevolgen van) hoogsensitiviteit. Het trainen van de onderstaande vaardigheden heeft hoogsensitieve mensen die ik heb begeleid geholpen om een diepere rust en balans te ervaren.
